Coconuts

Coconuts - Countering Climate Change (CCCC):

Each and every part of Coconut tree is very useful. Tender Coconuts, Oil rich Coconuts, Coconut shells are very useful in various aspects. Tender Coconuts are efficient coolers of human body without any kind of added chemicals. Coconut oils including virgin coconut oils are known for its fungicidal properties. Coconut milk and coconut sugars are also available from coconut. Coconut sap called Neera  is a nutritional healthy drink. Coco fibers can be used in clothing, biodegradable products and has various environmental usages such as erosion control, and oil cleanup. Cocopeat is very useful as a growing media. Dried branches can be used as mulch in the farm. Activated carbon from coconut shells is best for water filters. Biochar from coconut shells is another wonder growth media. Coconut trees are considered as Trees of Life.

Such wonderful coconut tree can be used to counter anthropogenically induced climate change. Coconut trees grow with several branches and is great for carbon sequestering. A coconut tree can store an average amount of 50 pounds of carbon dioxide per year. Scientific studies suggest positive potential of coconut tree as a as a potential sequestration source to mitigate the climate change problems

Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, India - the town where our roots are is called coconut city. It is agriculture area near Western Ghats biosphere with lots of coconut farms.

Coconut trees canopy under the foothills of Western Ghats can sequester more carbon and truly help in fighting the human induced climate change.

Agricultural companies, entrepreneurs, researchers are involved in fine tuning coconut varieties. One such person is Mr. David Johnson Lobo and his varieties of coconut are called DeeJay variety. They are short trees with high yield and have more branches. These varieties not only aid in fighting climate change, but also provide income to the farmers with high yield of coconuts. Tender coconuts are efficient coolers of human body without any kind of added chemicals.

Lauric acid has been shown to contribute the least to fat accumulation. Also, Lauric acid have demonstrably significant antimicrobial activity against gram positive bacteria and a number of fungi and viruses.

Activated Carbon from Coconut shells (Materials for filtration)

Coconut tree parts - fallen branches can be converted into Biochar and mulch.

Simple steps to make biochar:

*            Dig a deep trench in a bed and loosen the soil in the bottom of the trench.

*             Pile the chopped branches into the trench and light it. Fire starts out hot, but is quickly slows down as oxygen supply is reduced.

*           First white smoke is mostly water vapor. Then smoke turns into yellow because of the ingredients in the material which is being burned.

*             When the smoke thins and turns grayish blue, dampen down the fire by covering it with about an inch of soil to reduce the air supply, and leave it to smolder.

*            After the organic matter has smoldered into charcoal chunks, use water to put out the fire and get the biochar.

Cocopeat - various biodegradable products including plant growth media.

Coconut trees at EAFARMS:

At EAFARMS we follow Sustainable Organic Natural Agriculture with regenerative, indigenous methods along with ZBNF and permaculture techniques. Our tender coconuts have very tasty fizzy coconut water. People should give up drinking unhealthy drinks and drink healthy coconut water. It is amazing that our forefathers understood such benefits of coconuts and used it for Symbol of Rituals in Hinduism including while praying to Lord Shiva

We are constantly working with farmers especially coconut farmers (connecting global farmers) to use these valuable coconut trees to effectively fight against human induced Climate Change.

Together we can make a change.

TATA

TATA - a historical company of India:

"Tata Group  is an Indian multinational conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai. Founded in 1868 by Jamshedji Tata, the group gained international recognition after purchasing several global companies. It is one of the biggest and oldest industrial groups in India. Each Tata company operates independently under the guidance and supervision of its own board of directors and shareholders.

Significant Tata affiliates include Air India, Tata Chemicals, Tata Communications, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Consumer Products, Tata Elxsi, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Steel, Jamshedpur FC, Tanishq, Voltas, Tata Cliq, Tata Projects Limited, Tata Capital, Titan, Trent, Indian Hotels Company Limited, TajAir,  Cromā, andTata Starbucks etc."

Environment:

What TATA website says about the climate change:

"Climate change has been a growing concern within the Tata group for several years. The climate change movement began at the annual Tata Business Excellence Convention in December 2007 where Mr. Ratan Tata, the then Chairman of Tata group, suggested that Tata companies should play a more responsible role in mitigating the impact of climate change."

in their website - TATA Sustainability Group

Information Technology:

One of the leading IT consulting service in the World.
Their objectives  also have focus on Environment:

"Chart your course to net zero targets - A new era for energy"
"Regenerative ecosystems for a sustainable future".

TATA COFFEE - VALPARAI - POLLACHI
area:

"Valparai Estate is one of Tata Coffee's largest coffee estates and is located in a massive 1200 hectares on the Valparai Plateau in the Anamallais.  Valparai Lemonica is a carefully handpicked coffee, sprinkled with Lemon Grass stalk during drying to give it that unforgettable taste."

*Coming from Pollachi - Mahalingapuram area we grew up eating at  Shri N. Mahalingam  - TATA - Benz canteen. The wonderful taste and quality of Parottas and Kuruma - still lingering in minds,

*Having Tea and coffee with friends amidst tea estates, flowing waterfalls and serene environments during  Valparai trips from Pollachi, were best times of life,

and with these affinities to TATA (Environment, Information Technology, Food, Coffee and Tea, we at EnviroApps and EAFARMS always wanted to use their quality products for our projects.

In 2008 TATA Motors got Jaguar

Our vehicles for our projects were always from TATA:

Our vehicle - TATA Indica - we used for Ecotours in Pollachi area:
Message - SAVE WILDLIFE

Our Vehicle - TATA Indigo - first used for Ecotours and then for EAFARMS farm activities:
Message - Save The Environment.

Our project - Sustainable Organic Natural Agriculture - vehicle now - TATA Altroz:
Message - EAFARMS

Our future vehicles will be electric vehicles from TATA. We will continue to use TATA products for our projects as we explore Information Technology and Environment.

Recently, during the unwanted war crisis in Ukraine, TATA's Air India was sent to pick Indian citizens, who were stranded in that part of the World. We are in year 2022 and after Covid disaster, why would human beings need a war. Leaders and humans still did not learn. Praying for the peace. Let us stand united together as one human race and together protect our Mother Earth instead of fighting each other. We have far more better things to do as human beings.

Tribute to Dr. Abdul Kalam

With heavy heart and tears writing this, Dr. Kalam left us on 27 July, 2015 to be with God in Heaven.
Always prayed to God to send more people like him to Earth. However his legacy is still with us. Observing the condolences in the social media, we can see how many followed him. He had a vision to make the world better and his last speech was on Livable Planet. Most of us will follow his vision.

When I was in Maryland doing my research, I had visited Wallops Island Flight Facility and saw his signature there in the visitor's book.

That day I thought it will be nice to see him in person. After several years that dream came true, we met him in Casselberry temple.

He gave excellent speech during Gandhi Jayanthi  in the temple hall. He told everyone of us to contribute to others.

I still follow that, contributed and contributing my knowledge, experience to guide others in Environmental and Information Technology fields to make their life better and ask them to contribute to others.

Created projects that will help lots of people -

EA FARMS - Sustainable Organic Natural Agricultural Land Development

EAPHARMICS - Stability information for medicines

ZoomVin  - Creating environmental awareness through creating suitable ecological areas and photography.

His books in my collection:

"You have to dream before your dreams can come true" - Quote by Dr. Kalam.

He had asked several people including actors to plant trees.

My 8th Grade Niece's Tribute to Dr. Kalam

I have a dream to create sustainable environments and it is coming true. I will contribute to it as Dr. Kalam envisioned.  We have planted so many useful trees at EA Farms. RIP Dr. Kalam.

Education, Graduation, Future, Contribute

Last week I attended a graduation ceremony in one of the big University (UCF). It was lovely atmosphere. Diversified youngsters who worked hard for their degrees lined up in their graduating gowns, caps with tassels and hoods. It was wonderful and powerful atmosphere with their parents, friends and families cheering them.
Education is not easy, especially getting one from traditional universities. Price is high, hard work needs to be put in, to reap the benefits. It was the time for these young students to start reaping the benefits of their education. They had their master's and  bachelor's degrees and could see the ultimate happiness when they had their degree. I wish them all the best success in real World.
Graduation Ceremony

I remember the time, when I graduated 20 years back. It was a PhD in Environmental Sciences.
With my Ph.D guide Dr. Gupta

I was trying to get into teaching research career and want to guide as many students I could and publish as many research papers as I can. However the life takes you (similar to a river - changing directions) to a path as it wishes. So be ready for whatever path you get into and do the best as you can.

It is great to see graduates doing wonderful things such as this:

Lots of people in the World, even though they want, do not have the opportunities as we all did - graduating from an United States University. I have traveled and visited universities in many parts of the World. They do not have have the facilities, area, equipment and atmosphere for the education as we did. Think about your global counterparts (your age) who are in war torn areas, poor and cannot afford to study. This education has given more to you than to them, opened welcoming door to achieve more than those people. So when you fly high, please contribute to the World - it can be even simple thing such as sharing your knowledge (even through internet). It can be a guide to everyone who wants to follow and become like you. When I did not get the opportunity I wanted, I had the aspiration to co find a company called
EnviroApps - An Environmental & Information Technology Company

That led to EAPHARMICS - Electronic Pharmaceutical Applications - Stability Testing Software

and EA Farms - Sustainable Organic Natural Agricultural Land Development.

I think and feel better that I did some justice to my education and contributed what I feel is appropriate.

I have also trained, guided lots of people who have succeeded in their life and I will continue to do that. I wish and hope that these youngsters who graduated will grow into leaders and take the World into a wonderful path, moving forward. Wherever you are, strive hard to get education and guide others to get that knowledge. All other things may give temporary joy, but in long run it will not be good. So let us be positive, contribute with our education, knowledge we acquired through the education and show the World the right path for a better place to live.

Wherever you are, do whatever good you can, with whatever you have

Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
-- by Great President Theodore Roosevelt

President Roosevelt, was a key person, involved in saving several National Parks and Wildlife Refuges.
Last weekend, I  had the privilege to visit the America's first wildlife refuge that was created in 1903 - Pelican Island Wildlife Refuge to save wildlife.
Pelican Island

American White Pelican in Pelican Island wildlife refuge

Birds are important part of environment and play an important role in many ways.
National Parks and Wildlife Refuges are very important for these birds to survive.
Some of the birds in this refuge
Ibis group in the Tree
 Anhinga
Grey Heron
 Osprey with fish
Hawk
 Red Winged

Leaders should follow his footsteps to preserve the remaining forests and wildlife areas for the betterment of environment.

If we follow President Roosevelt and do what you can, with what you have and where you are (Good and Positive deeds) at least something (good) will happen. For example:

Couple of years ago we had this free cherry tree from a tree giveaway program. We planted this tree in our backyard.
Free Cherry Plum Tree Sapling

This year it gave us wonderful cherry plum fruits.

It also added aesthetics to our backyard and helped bringing in wonderful songs birds to our backyard.

I am also proud that the people I trained have gotten into real world jobs. Hope they help others to get the jobs as they did.

I had followed President's words by creating beautiful environment for the birds in my own backyard and trained people in Information Technology to get real time jobs.

So wherever you are -  Do whatever good you can, with what you have and where you are, it is going to create a wonderful society.
